Turner starts vs Bristol CityUSMNT star makes massive save in shootoutForest advance in FA CupGettyWHAT HAPPENED?
The two sides were meeting for the second time in 12 days after their first clash finished as a 0-0 draw at Ashton Gate, setting up Wednesday's fourth-round replay at Nottingham Forest.
It took just eight minutes for Forest to take the lead as Divock Origi netted the opening goal. The ex-Liverpool man's finish came from a corner kick, as Felipe's flicked-on header found Origi right in front of goal for the finish.
The lead lasted just six minutes, though, before Jason Knight leveled things for Bristol City. Following a fantastic Turner save, Forest were unable to clear their lines, letting the Robins maintain possession in the box. Knight's looped effort left Turner helpless, leveling the score at one apiece, where it would remain through all 90 minutes.
As a result, the match went into extra time, and it stayed level through the ensuing 30 minutes to set up a penalty shootout. Once there, Forest made all five of their spot kicks, while the oft-criticized Turner was able to make the one save needed, parrying a shot from Sam Bell to send Forest into the next round.

With the win, Forest move on in the FA Cup, although their run won't get any easier. Next up will be a match against Manchester United, who will visit Forest for their fifth-round clash on February 28.
For Turner, though, the match will feel like some measure of redemption. He has come under fire throughout the season for a series of self-inflicted errors, which the USMNT goalkeeper owned up to in a recent interview. Those errors have led to him being replaced as Forest's No. 1, with Wednesday's start only coming because new signing Matz Sels is ineligible. Turner made the most of it, though, becoming the hero with his big save in the shootout round.

Turner earned some criticism on social media for Bristol City's equalizing goal, but any blame headed his way will feel incredibly harsh. After making an initial save, Turner was simply left out to dry as Forest were unable to clear before the ball hit the back of the net.
Overall, though, despite his penalty kick heroics, this won't be a performance that will change many opinions about Turner, who is almost certainly set to remain second-choice. Sels' arrival seems to suggest Turner's days as a starter are over, with the mistakes he made through the first half of the season leading Forest to bring in a third different goalkeeping signing of the season.
The shootout, though, will give Turner a bit of confidence even if some time on the bench is coming his way. With the Nations League looming, he's likely to remain the USMNT No. 1 for the foreseeable future.
As for Gio Reyna, USMNT fans have no reason for concern. The American midfielder was excluded from the team because he was ineligible for the replay, having joined the team following the initial match at Bristol City.
