Foden fired in City's opening goal at the Etihad Stadium to become the only player to score in each of the last six years in the FA Cup, excluding qualifying rounds. It was the homegrown midfielder's 70th goal for City.

Foden ended last season on the fringes of the City team, not starting in the final of the FA Cup or Champions League (although he came off the bench in both) and not starting most games in the Premier League title run-in. But the England international has thrived in a central midfield role for City this season, taking advantage of Kevin De Bruyne's long term absence from the team with a torn hamstring.

Foden scored his first goal in the FA Cup in a 7-0 thrashing of Rotherham in the third round in 2019. It was also the then-teenager's first goal at the Etihad Stadium.

After making a strong start to their defence of the FA Cup, City will turn their attentions to their Premier League match away to Newcastle next Saturday. They then plan to head to Abu Dhabi for a warm weather training camp as they have a two-week gap before their next league game against Burnley on January 31.
